It is with great sadness we announce that former Wellington representative Tracey Woodward (nee Beatson) passed away on Sunday.
Tracey had contracted pneumonia via legionella and died way too early at only 52 years of age, leaving behind husband Rob and her children Briana and Thomas who she was so proud of.
Tracey’s love of cricket started at Tawa College. During her college years she would spend Saturday mornings playing for the Tawa College 1st XI then club cricket for Wellington Collegians in the afternoon.
Her parents, Elizabeth and John, were huge supporters of her cricket, providing the transport needed for Tracey and her school friends to get from school to club cricket every Saturday.
While at school she represented Wellington at secondary school and age-group representative level before being selected in the Wellington team in 1985. She went on to play five first-class matches and 11 List-A matches for Wellington, her representative career coming to an end in 1989.
Tracey went on to become a top physiotherapist working at Wellington Sports Medicine for many years where she had a real interest in the biomechanics of golf injuries. She was also a keen photographer and studied at the Photography Institute.
Tracey made lifelong friends through cricket. She loved the sport until the end and was extremely grateful to Cricket Wellington for organising the Blaze Reunion at the Dream11 Super Smash double-header grand final at the Basin Reserve earlier this year. The Blaze Brigade were out in force supporting the current Wellington Blaze team and Tracey was in her element catching up with many of her cricketing friends from back in the day.
Tracey loved her sport and once she hung up her cricket boots, she became an avid golfer right until the end.
Tracey will be farewelled at Old St Pauls this Friday 13 November at 11am.
