Wellington College have secured their spot in next month's Gillette Cup national tournament in Lincoln with a resounding 147-run win over St Patrick's College Silverstream in the Bruce Murray Cup final on Saturday.
Jakob Vandenberg was the standout performer for the home side notching 71 runs from 126 balls to lead his side to a strong first innings total of 201.
In reply, St Patrick's College Silverstream never gained momentum, with no batsman managing to reach double-figures - the side eventually bowled out for 54.
Vandenberg followed up his strong performance with the bat by picking up 2-16 from his five overs, while Max Sargentina was the standout bowler with 3-8 from his six overs.
Cricket Wellington community manager (participation) Jaimee Bially congratulated both sides on strong campaigns.
"We’re proud of the integrity of players coming through from these two colleges and believe the Wellington region will be represented strongly by Wellington College at the Gillette Cup national tournament," she said.
"“I would also like to reiterate the thanks given to John, Wellington College groundsman for preparation of the wicket for today's final."
Cricket Wellington pathway manager Chris Nevin said he was looking forward to seeing Wellington College represent the Capital at the national tournament next month.
"After seeing the way Wellington College played in the final, I have no doubt they will represent their school, and the Wellington region, with passion, pride and skill at the Gillette Cup National tournament in December and we wish them all the best down at Lincoln.”
The Gillette Cup national finals will be held at the New Zealand Cricket High Performance Centre in Lincoln from December 10-14.
