Hutt Valley High School will represent Wellington at the Gillette Venus Cup national schoolgirls competition after overcoming Tawa College in the regional final yesterday.
Batting first Tawa College reached 97 from their 20 overs after Rachel Bryant (38*) and Ava Conroy (28) put on a 66-run stand to take their side to a defendable total.
Hutt Valley's chase got off to a difficult start as Paige Scroder was removed early for a duck by Georgia Plimmer.
Hannah Kells offered resistance though and made a vital 28 alongside Blaze wicketkeeper Antonia Hamilton (33) who put on a composed display to guide their side home with an over to spare.
Cricket Wellington community manager (female) Frances Stewart said she was delighted with the quality of cricket on display and the spirit that the match was played in.
"An excellent game played in the true spirit of cricket," she said.
"We’re proud of the talent and integrity of the players coming through these two strong school teams and we're looking forward to supporting Wellington’s Hutt Valley High School in the upcoming Gillette Venus finals."
Hutt Valley High School will travel to Palmerston North to take part in the Gillette Venus Cup which takes place from December 11-13.
