It was a beautiful Saturday for another round of club cricket in the Ewen Chatfield and Hazlett trophies and Women's Div 1.
In ROBLAWMAX men's division 1 it was a top of the table clash between Karori and Taita at Karori Park. Restricting Taita to 188/10, Karori chased down the total in just 34 overs to take the contest by 5 wickets. Shivang Choudary with 55 for Karori with Jono Tuffin making 69 for Taita. At Kelburn Park Hutt District got back to winnings ways with a 3 wicket win over Vic Uni. Batting first Vic made 238/10 with Hutt reaching the target after 38 overs. Dhaval Vijay Lal with 55 for Vic and a superb 95 from Syed Mohamad of Hutt D. Chander Ravi also picking up 4 wickets for Hutt D. A successful away day from Hutt D to pick up their second 50 over win of the season. At Nairnville Park it was a comfortable win for Onslow against Easts. Bowling first Onslow dismissed Easts for just 98 with Matt Scoble the pick of the Onslow bowlers with 4/17 off seven overs. Onslow reaching the target in just 12 overs with both openers unbeaten and on the way to a 10 wicket victory. The Ewen Chatfield trophy ladder now reads Karori on top on 17 points, level with Taita but by virtue of run rate occupy first spot. Onslow sit in 3rd place one point back on 16. Easts, Vic and Hutt D all sit on 11 points. Hutt remain bottom on current net run rate heading into round 7 this weekend.
In the Hazlett trophy division 2 it was a run fest across the board as all three matches produced well over 500+ run contests. At Linden Park it went down to the final over as Petone got over the line to defeat Norths by 2 wickets. Setting a target of 269/9, Norths looked like restricting Petone however a 64 from Petone skipper Harry Wall and a well timed 47 from Rogan Vekony got the men in blue home with five balls remaining. Jack Gaskin had also contributed 44 for the away side. Earlier, Norths Sam Millmow produced a fantastic 88 from the middle order to help Norths reach a respectable total. Wade Mckenize picked up figures of 4/31 off his 10 overs with the ball for Petone. At Alex Moore Park where the pitch is ever increasingly being dubbed 'the road on the hill' Johnsonville and Upper Hutt produced another 600+ run thriller. Batting first, Upper Hutt made 312/5 in their 50 overs with two centuries from the red hot Sam Morgan (108 off 134) and Upper Hutt's overseas player, Dylan Blignaut (107 off 119). Lauchie Bailey also produced a vital 41 from the middle order to give Upper Hutt it's mammoth target for Johnsonville to chase. In reply, the hosts gave almost as good as they got. Andrew Moir opening the batting with 80, Matthew Nel with 52 (not out) from no.3 and Janakan Karunaharan making 89 from no.7 got Jville to 305/7, falling just 7 runs short in what would have been an epic batting show for any neutrals watching on. While it definitely wasn't a day for the bowlers, Cullen Donaldson did manage to pick up 3 wickets while Connor Lusty in not taking any wickets for Jville picking up very respectable figures of 0/22 off his 10 overs which should be commended in a match that produced over 600 runs. In the third and final match it was Wainui entertaining Naenae at Bryan Heath Park. Naenae edging the contest in the 49th over winning by 5 wickets. Having been set a target of 269 to win by Wainui, Naenae produced a mature batting performance in reply. Ethan Goddard again solid with the bat from the top of the order with 60 and Patrick Diamond made an importan 86 not out in a man of the match display from Naenae's middle order. Earlier for Wainui Jordan Rangikauhata (51) and Callum Mackaness (68) had made the runs in setting the respectable target for the away side to chase down.The Hazlett ladder continues to show Upper Hutt at the top of the standings on 22 points with an important five point gap to Petone in second on 17 points. Norths are one point back on 15 in third spot with Naenae on 14 points. Johnsonville stay off the bottom with 6 points, one more than Wainui on 5 as the division moves onto round 7. The top two in the division will contest the Hazlatt trophy final after 10 rounds to determine who is promoted in 25/26.
In Women's Division 1 it was back to the T20 competition and the Mareen Peters plate. At Kilbirnie Park Johnsonville Women picked up their second T20 victory of the season, this time over City Suburbs by just 8 runs. Making 90/9 they restricted the home team to just 82/10 in reply. It was a day for the bowlers with the Johnsonville skipper Annissa Greenlees picking up figures of 4/17 off three overs with the performance of the day coming from City Suburbs Kasey Bentham with 5/15 off four overs in a great individual bowling performance. Table toppers North City were up against Collegians at Grenada North and showing once again why they continue to be the team to beat with a four wicket win. Collegians making 97/7 in their 20 overs, Norths got over the line at 98/6 after 18 overs. At Trentham Memorial it was Upper Hutt who produced the win of the round defeating defending champions Petone by 31 runs. Setting a target of 144, Petone could only manage 112/6 in their 20 overs. Sam Mackinder making 59 with the bat for Upper Hutt, Hannah Kells managed 38 for Petone on a day that gave Upper Hutt their first T20 win of the season and put Petone five points behind leaders Norths. Johnsonville now sit 3rd on nine points, level with Petone. City Suburbs and Upper Hutt are 4th and 5th respectively on five points with Collegians yet to register a win or a point at the bottom of the ladder as the teams head toward another T20 round this weekend. Division 1 will now play T20 until the final at the Cello Basin Reserve on Jan 25 with the remaining 40 over rounds being played from Feb 1 onwards.In the mens's reserve grades it was wins for Collegians, Petone, Onslow and Eastern Suburbs in division 3. In division 4, Vic Uni, Hutt D Super Challengers, Hutt D Reserves and Sri Lankan Sports Club picked up the all important W's.
