Club Cricket Review - 9th November 2024


It was another action packed weekend in Senior Club Cricket as both the men and women went into round 2 of their respective competitions.

Starting with the ROBLAWMAX Senior Men it was club record for Taita as they posted 428/9 against Hutt District at the limited Miramar Park, with the game at the request of the home team having been transferred from the not yet ready Hutt Rec ground. Taita then went on to bowl Hutt D out for 292 to win by 136 runs. Toby Barton scoring a commanding 131 at the top of the order with Nick Greenwood 65 and Kieran McComb 66 not out. Oliver Tewatiya the pick of the performances from Hutt with 4/43 and 51 with the bat.

At Kelburn Park it was Vic Uni that got the better of recently crowned T20 Champions, Eastern Suburbs. A great result for Vic to get their first Ewen Chatfield Trophy points of the season and leaving Easts 0 from 2. Fifties for Dhaval Vijay Lal and Shan Jangra for Uni with 59 from East's Nick Kwant. Tom Valentine also picking up 4 wickets for Uni on their way to the 51 run win.

In a low scoring affair on an early season wicket at Karori Park, Onslow were bowled out for 102 with Liam Roche picking up 4 wickets for Karori. In reply, Kaori made 105/6, winning by 4 wickets. Oscar Wilson with 59 at the top of the order for their first 50 over win after defeat last week in round 1.

On the ladder, it's Taita who are top with two wins from two on 10 points. Karori second on 5 with Vic Uni, Hutt D and Onslow all on 4 points with a 1-1 record. Easts are bottom, yet to register a win from the opening two rounds.

 

In Women's Division 1 it was the second round of the T20 as Petone continued to show their dominance of the division with a dominant win over a promising Johnsonville side. Winning by 6 wickets they restricted Johnsonville to just 77/9 in their 20 overs reaching the target in just 11.5 overs. Another strong performance from Hannah Francis, this time picking up a five wicket bag for Petone with Charlotte Caudle the pick of the batsman with 35 not out.

It was a similar theme at Linden Park as North City continued to show they are right on the heels of Petone in terms of quality and form. Winning by 108 runs, Norths posted 187/3, bowling Upper Hutt out for just 79. Rebecca Burns the star for Norths with an unbeaten 114 opening the batting supported well by Ava Conroy with 44.

At Anderson Park, City Suburbs picked up their first win in division 1 with a 8 wicket victory over Wellington Collegians. Again, with the bat is where the performance was with Jordan Meltzer making 62 not out. Collegians making 109/6 with City Suburbs 110/2 after just 16 to wrap up the win.

On the ladder, it's Norths who sit top on 10 points after two wins, Petone a point back on 9. Johnsonville and City Suburbs on a win a piece on 5 with Collegians and Upper Hutt yet to taste victory.

 

In the men's Hazlett trophy in division 2, Petone had a huge win by 10 wickets over Naenae. Casey Cowpland (71 off 85) and Wade McKenize (43 off 62) unbeaten in the chase of 141 made by Naenae. Wade also picking up 4 wickets on what was a great day for him with both bat and ball for Petone.

Johnsonville triumphed by 24 runs over Wainuiomata at Alex Moore Park. 101 made by Jville's Janakan Karunaharan and 62 by the skipper, Zack Scott-Howman. Logan Stoupe picked up 4 wickets for Wainui along with a brilliant 110 made by Ryan Jackson and 70 from Jackson Hemingway to get Wainui close to the target. Reece Edgecombe also had a notible performance with the ball, snaring a five wicket bag for Johnsonville in a game of highlights all round.

Finally, at Barton Oval, Upper Hutt tasted victory by 3 wickets in a close contest with North City. Batting first Norths made 214/7 in their 50. In reply Upper Hutt 215/7 in 48.1 with Sam Morgan (57) and Callum McLachlan (68) the pick of the Upper Hutt batsmen. For Norths it was Ishaan Gandhi with another strong showing with the bat making 75 at the top of the order.

On the ladder, it's Petone that take control of the Hazlett with two wins from two on 9 points. Johnsonville and Upper Hutt sit 2nd and 3rd on 6 points with Naenae on 4. Norths and Wainui yet to pick up points after two rounds but with plenty more opportunities in the weeks ahead.

 

Finally, in the men's reserve grades it was Taita, Onslow, Vic Uni and Wellington Collegians who picked up opening round wins in the 50 over competition for division 3. In division 4 it was the same for Vic Uni Stallions, Hutt Super Challengers, Sikh Sports Club and Petone Reserves all picking up wins.
