It was a big weekend of results as the Premier Women's season got underway with the start of the T20 Competition.
Petone got their title defence off to the best possible start with a win over Upper Hutt by seven wickets. With the bat, Antonia Hamilton made 46 for Upper Hutt with Petone's Hannah Francis unbeaten on 44 to help the champions to victory.
North City also got off to a good start with a dominant win over Collegians by nine wickets.
In the final match in the division it was Johnsonville who got the win over City Suburbs by 44 runs with Anvi Verma scoring 57 at the top of the order for Johnsonville. Gabriella Esterhuizen also claiming 3 wickets for the victors.
In the RobLawMax Men's Reserve grade T20 Finals played on Sunday, it was Vic Uni 2nd XI who got the win over Easter Suburbs Reserves by 41 runs. In Division 4 it was a dominate win fro Sri Lankan Sports Club Premiers who defeated the Hutt District Super Challengers by 8 wickets to win the T20 format as both reserve grades begin their 50 over competitions on Nov 9.
In the RobLawMax Men's Division 1 Ewen Chatfield Trophy it was Taita, Hutt District and Onslow picking up first round wins. At Miramar Park, Vic Uni posted a competitive total of 251, Tom Valentine with 71 and Shan Jangra 55. With the ball for Hutt D, Iain McPeake picked up three wickets. in reply, Hutt D made 253/6 to win by four wickets. 75 not out from Will Stevenson and 64 from Baahul Gandhi getting Hutt D home in the 43rd over. Patrick White picking up 4 wickets for Vic Uni.
At Fraser Park, Taita won by 38 runs. Batting first Taita made 166 all out with Will Greenwood making 47. In reply, Karori were dismissed for 128, Sam French the pick of the batsman making 38 with Ted Fleming picking up 4 wickets for Taita in their succesful defence of 166. Finally, at Kilbirnie Park it was a run fest as Easts made 274 all out v Onslow. Onslow in reply winning by 6 wickets in a fantastic chase. A brilliant 95 from Micah Conroy, 51 from the skipper Sam Keegan and 68 from Will Julian at the top of the scorecard getting Onslow the victory in 47 overs. In an all round performance, Micah Conroy also picking up 4 wickets with the ball. Easts also posting solid batting performances from Nick Kwant (82) and Jed Wiggins (82).
Two teams that certainly look strong at the start of the 50 over rounds.In the Hazlett, it was a thriller at Alex Moore Park as Johnsonville and Upper Hutt played our a last ball draw with both teams posting 258 in their 50 overs. Charlie Wilson with 83 and Lachie Bailey with 55 for Upper Hutt. For Johnsonville, it was a fantastic 92 from Will Martin in addition to 4 wickets sneared for Sean Wakelin. At Sladden Park it was a tight tussle between Petone and Norths with Petone eding the contest by 6 wickets with three overs to spare. A mighty 110 from Jack Gaskin in the chase got Petone over the line with a further 51 contributed by skipper Harry Wall. For Norths it was the Gandhi brothers, Ishaan with 49 and Sheil with 60. In the battle of the Hutt Valley it was Naenae who got the better of Wainuiomata by 13 runs. Notable mentions were with the ball with Gurpreet Singh grabbing a 5 wicket bag for Wainui, while Ethan Goddard continued his good form for Naenae with 4 wickets in another strong display to help Naenae to victory.
