Following recent disruptions to our club cricket competitions, due to the impacts of the New Zealand government’s COVID-19 isolation requirements, Cricket Wellington has moved to amend the remainder of the club season to ensure the appropriate completion of all competitions.
An outline of these amendments for each competition are outlined below.
Cricket Wellington would like to congratulate all winners of their respective grades and wish those with matches still to play all the best for the remainder of the season.
Men’s Division 1 and Division 2
- Cricket Wellington is committed to completing the Division 1 season to crown a Pearce Cup champion and determine promotion/relegation
- The scheduled round five fixtures will be played on 26 and 27 March (to limit the impact of isolation requirements there will be no Division 1 cricket played on 19 March). If a club(s) cannot fulfil their fixture due to eight or more players being unavailable the match will be rescheduled and played on 2nd and 3rd April
- As above, in the event of any round five fixtures needing to be rescheduled because of isolation requirements these fixtures will be played on 2nd and 3rd April (the dates reserved for the Peace Cup final) and may be played on neutral grounds. The previously advised threshold of eight players for an abandonment will not apply and clubs must fulfil their fixture. Any team that defaults will receive no competition points and their opposition shall receive the equivalent to the team scoring the most points in the same round as per clause 13.4 of the By-Laws. Any forfeiture will be deemed two full playing days
- There will be no Pearce Cup final, and the winner of the Pearce Cup will be determined based on the final standings at the conclusion of the season
- Promotion/relegation between Division 1 and Division 2 in the one-day format is confirmed. For the 2022/23 season Hutt District will be promoted to Division 1 while Onslow will be relegated to Division 2
- Round five of Division 2 will be played as scheduled on Saturday 19 and Saturday 26 March.
- As 10 days of cricket have preceded unimpacted as per the Cricket Wellington Competitions Contingency Plan the team that finishes in last place across both formats of the Hazlett Trophy in Division 2 will be relegated to Division 3. This is providing the winner of Division 3 is eligible for promotion
Men’s Cricket (Division 3-7, Intercity and T20)
- All competitions in senior men’s cricket below Division 2 (Division 3-7, Intercity and T20) are now complete as of fixtures on the 12th and 13th March. Promotion/relegation and grade winners will be determined once all scorecards have been submitted and points ratified as ten playing days have been completed as per the Cricket Wellington Competitions Contingency Plan
- Ground bookings will remain, and clubs/teams may complete friendly fixtures as per player availability. If teams are unable to play, they must advise the Competitions Manager as soon as possible
Women’s Cricket
- All competitions in women’s cricket below Division 1 (Division 2-3 and Girls Hardball Y7-11) are now complete as of fixtures on the 12th and 13th March. Grade winners will be determined once all scorecards have been submitted and points ratified as one full round of each competition has been completed as per the Cricket Wellington Competitions Contingency Plan
- The Maureen Peters T20 Plate competition will continue with the previously advised finals weekend of 27 March being available as a reserve day for any impacted rounds. There will be no Maureen Peters final and the winner will be determined by round robin standings
