Cricket Wellington will introduce a new specialist coaching model looking ahead to the 2021/22 season.
The model, announced today by CEO Cam Mitchell, aims to support the Wellington Blaze and Wellington Firebirds head coaches with the goal to further achieve the organisation’s strategic objective of having more players playing for New Zealand.
Wellington has enjoyed huge success through both its Wellington Blaze and Firebirds teams in recent seasons, as well as the number of players developing and going on to represent the BLACKCAPS and the WHITE FERNS.
Wellington currently has 10 international representatives, as well as several New Zealand A and New Zealand development players, and the new model will further align with the organisation’s strategic objective to produce more international players.
“Seeing Wellingtonians perform at the highest level generates a genuine sense of pride throughout our cricket family,” said Cricket Wellington CEO Cam Mitchell.
“To help ensure our players are provided with the best opportunity to achieve their aspirations as cricketers, we have identified that we need specialist coaches that, alongside our team coaching positions, support our players with technical skill development.
“We are now excited to invite our current coaches and aspiring coaches from around the world to express interest in the roles looking forward to what will be an exciting 2021/22 summer of cricket.”
The introduction of the new coaching model begins with Wellington Firebirds head coach Glenn Pocknall’s contract being extended until May 2024.
With the fixed-term agreements of remaining coaching staff expiring in April, the new coaching model will consist of the following roles, with expressions of interest for the roles open immediately:
